
A designated group of cells used for routing in GPRS Mobility Management. An RA is a subset of a GSM Location Area. In GPRS a smaller group is needed since traffic is packet-by-packet, not call-based as in GSM proper. Unless the GPRS mobile is in the READY state, any MT (mobile terminated) traffic requires the network to perform paging in the RA where the mobile is known to be.
